My Hobbies
I was born and raised in southern Missouri. I wore women's gloves when I helped my grandad on his ranch and played Mario like it was a religion. From an early age I loved stories and tried to sell homemade comic books that I copied on my dad's work printer. I was also raised in the Pentecostal Christian movement, so yeah. Lots of speaking in tongues. The upside is I can play multiple instruments and know what the fuck people are talking about when they say weird things about the book of Revelation.
I attended the University of Missouri Kansas City for both an undergrad and an MFA in creative writing with a focus in fiction. Simultaneously, I lost my faith, got married, and fell in love with the outdoors. Much of my writing intersects somewhere in realm where our conceptions of meaning and belonging meet the terrifying cosmic world of death, galaxy formation, and exceptional pho.
I currently pay taxes in Kansas City (Missouri, you heathens). We specialize in cattle, Baptist churches, and having zero culture, so don't you dare move from the coasts and raise my cost of living. We definitely don't have a cool music scene, great restaurants, or some of the best outdoors recreation in the continental US. Seriously, don't move here.
I beaver trap, forage wild edibles, hunt everything that runs or flys, and would prefer to wander the woods for ten to fifteen hours than attend your social event. I also draw, paint, tan my own fur, write poetry, and host wild game dinners.
